Interdisciplinary Cluster “Nuclear Medicine Center”
Founded in 2023, following the NASB Presidium Office Decision No. 503 of November 27, 2023.
Director: Cheshik Igor Anatolyevich, PhD MedScs, Assoc. Prof., Director, Institute of Radiobiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
Purpose: Development of advanced nuclear medicine technologies based on high scientific substantiation of fundamental radiobiological studies, synthesis of vector molecules and production of a new generation of radiopharmaceuticals for medical use.
Tasks:
- R&D in advanced technologies for production new-generation medicinal compounds containing radioisotopes (radiopharmaceuticals);
- Promotion of technologies based on particle and radiation sources for sterilization of medical devices;
- Use of the latest achievements in nuclear physics for the development of advanced tools and techniques for diagnostics and therapy;
- Production development of radioimmunoassay kits used in diagnostics procedures;
- Development of scientific background for complex radiochemical technologies in nuclear medicine radioactive waste management;
- Study of biological mechanisms of low-dose ionizing radiation;
- Provision of nuclear and radiation safety scientific and technical support to organisations applying for the license in the field of the use of atomic energy and sources of ionizing radiation;
- Preclinical assessment of diagnostic and therapeutic effectiveness of various radiopharmacological drugs using in vitro and in vivo models;
- Development and toxicological evaluation of the new targeted drug delivery methods using radioactive isotopes, i.e. radioimmunotherapy or targeted therapy;
- Analysis of the nuclear medicine R&D potential and prospects.
